Q is for Quiz Times...

Q stumped me for sure initially until I recalled my love for quizzes; so for the letter Q, I bring you - Quizzes Galore - Quizzing in India is BIG! Every school has regular quiz contests, quizzes are held at school, regional, state, and national levels; quizzes for all ages; shows on radio, TV, online now, and via magazines and newspapers; in every variety you can imagine, covering topics from everywhere.

Q: How does that fit into my theme? (My theme: Favorite Childhood Memories, be it games or books or food or movies or just random somethings - with one additional twist - these are memories I would like to build in the future as well - with my kids, if possible!)
A: I was a quiz lover as a kid, taking part in contests at school, in our neighborhood quiz contests, trying to answer the questions on TV shows before the contestants did, and quizzes in magazines/newspapers were not spared (regardless of the topic/theme).'Quiz Time' hosted by one of the most popular quiz-masters in India - Siddhartha Basu as well as the 'Bournvita Quiz Contest' - one of the first quiz shows on TV in India were among my favorite shows growing up.
While I am not sure if I can have the kids participate in contests at the same level here in the US (they do not have too many organized in their schools or such, unfortunately), I hope to cultivate a love for quizzes in them and with that, a love for knowledge, for learning, and curiosity about the world around and beyond them. They watch Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and other similar shows with me and sometimes remark (on those days when I seem to know all the answers!) that I should take part in the shows :)

A quiz for you:

Q to the reader: Are quizzes your thing? Or are shows like Family Feud more you? Maybe you are a Wheel of Fortune type?

Signing off on Day 20 and the letter Q  as I continue on the #AtoZChallenge  and #UltimateBloggingChallenge

  1. Oh I used to love watching Sidhharth Basu- I think he was the ultimate quiz master!! Derek Obrian came a close second and then there was KBC- I can recall waiting anxiously for the quiz shows. In my days too there were no quiz competition in my school either!!

    1. :)Siddharth Basu was definitely an idol.. and at one point during a visit to my aunt, she mentioned he lived in a building in the neighborhood (and she showed me where).. I was so tempted to go knock on the door and talk to him.. but I didn't (was around 15 that time) and regret that lost opportunity to this day.

  2. Omg I remember that show. I can relate with this, knowing answer to that show's question gave me a sense of achievement ... I didn't know all the answers though. But when I did it felt awesome!
I don't watch shows anymore... Except for sometimes when I binge watch some random silly Netflix show and later complain about it being filled with so much suspense that I had to watch multiple episodes back to back.
    Nice post thanks for sharing
    Best Wishes!

    1. Chicky, yes, it was .
I would have gotten just that one right too based on what I knew before I created that quiz (any other correct answers would have been lucky guesses!!)

  8. I just loved this post of yours as I'm big into quizzes. At one time I used to know all the answers to everything ( that was before Google). Sadly now I hardly remember anything at all.....And yes, SIddharth Basu was quite the dish when we had Doordarshan in B & W!
