Super Saturday - Life's Little Treasures

Today, as I wait for the tree to come home so we can start decorating for the holidays, I am thinking about how all these moments need to be treasured. True, Christmas is an adopted holiday for us (we started celebrating these holidays when we moved here to CA from India while continuing to celebrate our own traditions and holidays) but we cherish all of these along with moments and places and people and things we see and do everyday. What are life's little treasures if not for these various moments, people, places, things.
The first 'anything' your child does - the first smile, the first step, the first word and more - and every 'anything' done thereafter.
A smile, a spontaneous hug, the sound of 'mommy' when I pick up my kids after school, what they say each day (sometimes funny, sometimes silly, sometimes profound, sometimes touching but always wonderful)
A lamp lit on Diwali, the doll arrangement done for Golu every year
The wonderful smells of favorite foods
The tree put up and decorated at Christmas, the smell of the pine permeating the house,

Saturday Memes:
Saturday Snapshot is a meme hosted by Alyce at At Home with Books. All you have to do is "post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken and then leave a direct link to your post in the Mr. Linky on [her] blog. Photos can be old or new, and be of anything as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give is up to you." All she asks is that you don't just post random photos that you find online.
This was taken about three years ago. When we moved the recycle bin to take out to the street, what do we find but Mr.Frog and Miss Lizard enjoying a visit. They did not like us interfering!

Six Word Saturday -Six Word Saturday sponsored by Show My Face. It's quite simple--all you need to do is describe your life in six words
Nitpicking - painful, tedious, and thankfully done!

This week, for the first time, discovered nits (and obviously a few lice - which were easier to get rid of) in my daughter's hair. I learned how time-consuming, back-breaking nitpicking is and also learned the origin of the word nitpicking!! Am just glad it is over (for now).

Also participating in Quote It! this week hosted over at  Freda's Voice.
Rules are simple: Add as many quotes as you wish, from whom ever you wish. It can even be lyrics to a song. Just tell us who it is. Anonymous welcome too. And link back to Freda's Voice

"Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit"  -Aristotle (384 BC - 322 BC) Greek Philosopher

"Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does."  -William James

"Be gentle to all and stern with yourself." - Saint Teresa of Avila

"Even if you fall on your face, you're still moving forward." -Victor Kiam

"Things do not happen. Things are made to happen." -John F. Kennedy

"Without hard work, nothing grows but weeds." -Gordon B. Hinckley

"Don't limit a child to your own learning, for he was born in another time." -Rabindranath Tagore

  1. The lizard and frog look so sweet! Even their coloring is similar.

  2. Yikes. The nits frighten me. I always said I'd move away rather than try to get rid of all of them. Hope you were successful. Love the pic. Here's My Saturday Snapshot

  3. Oh they are so cute! I love getting to see frogs and lizards in the wild, probably because it doesn't happen often.

  4. oh no with the lice! That was something, thankfully, I was spared with when the kids were in school! Hopefully it is a thing of the past for you all!

  5. That is a great shot of the lizard and the frog, not something you see that often. I really like the Kennedy quote, it is so true.

  6. @Trish:) isn't that really cute? almost relatives!

  7. @Paulitathankfully, it looks like they are all gone! i am just hoping she does not get it again from school or elsewhere..

  8. @(Diane) Bibliophile By the SeaI am convinced they were very happily munching on meals together (lots of their food behind the bin)

  9. @AlyceI see lizards often in our yard.. and one particular little fellow had a favorite spot in our garden and we would find him there always this last summer.. now he is all grown up and outgrown our yard, i guess.

  10. @That corgi :)thanks, am hoping the lice are in the past now, where they belong:)

  11. @SquirrelQueenseeing the two together was a treat.. we spent our whole evening looking at them that day! 'We are the change'

  12. What a fabulous find under the bin!
