World of Words Wednesday - What a Wonderful Year (the has been and will be)

“Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!

I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!”

― William Arthur Ward

As I was scouring the web for New Year quotes, I found and loved two of them - one I share in today's post here as well as on my FB page. The other I put on my post yesterday with my resolutions for 2014 here.  As we watched the ball drop at Times Square last night and watched the clocks move to a new date in a new year on our gadgets, my son remarked that everything was still the same - though a new year had started! Well, with the resolutions I have made, I hope to change somethings for the better in my little corner of the world at least. :)

For ABC Wednesday, with thanks to Mrs.Nesblitt and ROG (who never fails to cheer me with his comments) and also Leslie from the ABC team, for the letter 'Y' as well as for Three Word Wednesday (gorgeous, jittery, outrageous)

The New Year
It is here...
A gorgeous, wonderful
hope-filled year..
A chance to spread
loads of cheer..

A chance to do
something outrageous
that makes you
jittery (not with fear!)

The New Year
It is here...
A chance for
chances to make mistakes
To learn, to go places
far and near.....

From OED's word of the day:
Handsel – 1. To give someone a gift at the beginning of a year or day; 2. To confer good luck on a trader by being the first customer of the day (bohni); 3. To use for the first time/to be the first one to test or try; 4: to inaugurate (new building/position/office etc)

From a book I was reading:
lammergeyer: A large predatory bird (Gypaetus barbatus) of the vulture family, ranging from the mountainous regions of southern Europe to China and having a wide wingspan and black plumage. Also called bearded vulture, ossifrage.

Wednesday Book Review:
stephanie perkins Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins:
This book is one of those I planned to read when I first heard about it (and then heard about it many times over!) and I finally got around to reading it at the end of last year(!).

And I did love it – a light read and delightful characters make this book a page turner. The portrayal of the city, of book stores and theaters, of Girl Scout cookies, of charm and quaint is just perfect. I liked this book for what it is - something to read when you want to smile. It does not pretend to be a book about deep issues or serious stuff, and I enjoyed the sweet romance in the book that the characters did not rush into - this is always a page turner for me - to discover that moment when the main characters learn the truth the readers know. I always enjoy reading books where the readers get to walk the streets of cities through words and see the city through someone who knows it rather than a tourist. I am looking forward to the others in the series.

A little quirky, a little cheesy, a little predictable, a little everything-you-expect-in-a-teen-romance - overall, sweet!
