and the Liebster goes to....

Thank you to AJ from One Part Joy - One Part Circus for nominating me for the Liebster award!  My very first bloggy award!

What is a Liebster? The meaning: Liebster is German and means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.

11 things about myself:
  1. I love talking. One quote from the book ‘Cutting for Stone’ by Abraham Verghese reminded me of myself. Here it is: “Rosina took silence as a personal offense, and spoke into empty rooms and chattered into cupboards.”
  1. I dance when I wash the dishes, fold the clothes (I am sure you wonder if I get the chores done but it does make it fun).
  2. I bump into things, a lot -  my kids love hearing the story of when I bumped headlong into a lamp post as I walked reading a book – so no reading while walking now:)  but I still continue to bump into things – things big and small
  3. As a kid, when my parents asked me what I wanted, my answer was always books.
  4. I like to read several books at a time (sometimes around 10 at a time!). Both 4 and 5 go to show how much I love reading: one of my favorite quotes:
“She read all sorts of things: travels, and sermons, and old magazines. Nothing was so dull that she couldn't get through with it. Anything really interesting absorbed her so that she never knew what was going on about her. The little girls to whose houses she went visiting had found this out, and always hid away their story-books when she was expected to tea. If they didn't do this, she was sure to pick one up and plunge in, and then it was no use to call her, or tug at her dress, for she neither saw nor heard anything more, till it was time to go home.”  ― Susan Coolidge, What Katy Didthis quote is perfect for me, as my parents said exactly something similar of me to friends and relatives  and actually would ask them to hide the books if they wanted me to talk and play
  1. I am comfortable with mess. If I was not married to someone who needs order, my house would have been a wonderful place for mess-lovers all around.
  2. I love blogging, and am enjoying pinteresting (though am not much of a social-media junkie otherwise – my FB page is there, yes, but that is it!)
  3. I love online window shopping (though I never really did a lot of or enjoyed regular window shopping as much)
  4. I recently started getting hooked onto Teen TV shows and the ‘Related’ shows feature in Netflix is proving to be a bane rather than a boon because of this – once I finish watching one show (all the episodes on Netflix for that show), I get on to the next one. It was with difficulty that I broke away from this habit a little earlier this year after a couple of months of back-to-back shows.
  5. Many of my dreams still have their setting in the place where I spent my childhood years in (the first 18 years of my life). I might dream about people whom I only met recently or about aliens but the setting/locale ends up being my childhood hometown (about 70% of the times).
  6. Talking about areas I lived in, I have lived in five towns/cities throughout  my life (but three areas)  – first, my childhood hometown in central Karnataka, India;  second, Bangalore, the Silicon Valley/Garden City of India, where I stayed through my college years and till I got married; third, in the San Francisco Bay Area since then (I have moved twice in the Bay Area and lived in three cities here so far but all within a radius of 5 miles).
AJ's questions for me:
1. Best thing that happened to you in the last year?
We celebrated my son’s thread ceremony (this is similar to the Bat Mitzvah) and it was wonderful as many from our large, extended family came to be a part of this function.  This function is very important and paternal grandparents play a big role in this. It was even more of a best thing since my father -in -law was able to take part, enjoy, feel pride in his beloved grand son, bestow his blessings during this event, and spend a fun-filled, sun-filled summer with grandchildren before he passed away less than three months after this event. That he was there for this major event and that we did at that time when he was well made this really special event all the more special
2. Chocolate or Vanilla?
Ooh that is a tough one… if icecream, then vanilla; if a milkshake, then I think it has to be chocolate.
3. Coffee or Tea?
This is easier – I am a tea personJ - Indian chai, green tea, herbal teas – I love all of them.
4. Why do you love blogging?
Because I love to write, and yes, make friends, and read, and love being online:0
5. What would your dream job be?
Just answered this question for nablopomo – something to do where I am around books all day – a librarian, a bookshop employee, or since you said, dream job – it would be one where I can just read books for my job..
6.  Would you rather eat a bag of Cheetos or a bag of Sun-chips? Sun-chips..
7.  If money (and spousal opinions) was no object, how many children would you have/adopt?
Just the ones I have, thank you, I still would have to take care of them.. I love them and they are darlings most of the time, except for the few times when they are darling devils..
8. If you had to live somewhere other than where you live, where would you move to??
First  choice would be back home in India – in Bangalore
Second choice would be Singapore
Third would be Seville – though not sure what we would do there for work
And one last choice (though am sure can come up with more options) – Seattle

9.  Would you rather visit New York City or San Francisco? Why?
Another toughie – love the energy of new York, times square, broadway.. but my heart is in san Francisco and I can visit it way more easily at a distance of about an hours drive from where I live..
10. Would you go to prison for something you believe in?
I guess I would.. but if it would cost a lot more to my family if I am not with them, then….

11. What is your favorite song this month?
‘Rocking around the Christmas tree’ (my kids love this one) and ‘Do you see what I see’

I have many favorite blogs and here, in keeping with the rules of the award, am choosing the blogs with less than 200 followers – I used the GFC numbers in most cases and here they are, my Liebster nominees:
